Sad story but not clear you can extrapolate this special case into general condemnation of Leaf. No "lizard" chem. So many charging myths. We DCFCd our 2017 Leaf 600+ times, 5% degradation over 36k miles. Ambient temp is less important than people generally think. It will slow your 2nd DCFC if hot outside, since car works fine with battery under 130°F or so. But by then you have driven 175+ mi. depending on model. This battery is 8 yrs old, which is end of warranty anyway.

This confirms what we already know. Keeping battery in full charged in hot conditions is really bad. Degredation increase exponentially by temperature and also when keeping fully charged. Exactly like typical laptop, which really kills them too. You can't find it on official specification but it seems also true that storing batteries without using them is also bad if it's not cold.

Part of my decision to buy my Model 3 came from having a generally good experience with Lithium batteries in better cordless tools. As the local fix-it guy (lawnmowers, laptops, guitar amps, etc) I have had some luck restoring battery packs. After a serious fall or submersion, it is usually the BMS that fails, not the cells. When a pack refuses to charge, it is frequently because the BMS has let the cells get unbalanced, this is easy to correct. If a younger me owned a Transmission/Brakes/Auto Electric/Exhaust business, or any combination, I would start the training to morph into a Battery Rebuilding business. All those Hybrids, Leafs & more. "Big Bob's Battery Barn", I can see it now ....

What do you think about the new pricing plan in the republic of Ireland? Up until a few days ago, High Speed Charging (50kWh+) was free, which caused hogging on our limited network. AC charging is still free, but High Speed Charging is: a) 33c per kWh. Overstay fee of €5 after 45 minutes. b) Introductory offer of 29c per kWh and a yet to be announced monthly subscription fee after the first 12 months for customers who sign up before November 30th 2019. Overstay fee is the same.

It may be a problem with lithium ion batteries in warm countries, and the car sitting in the dealership for 5 years, being either charged to 100% or having a very low state of charge, is no good either, plus he charged to 100% every night. Meaning - avoiding charging to 100% all the time, is even more important in a hot country, plus battery cooling must be better.

Bars are not linear and there are not 10 but 12. Also you can fake all 12 bars. It takes 60 days below treshold for a bar to go away... 12 bars is 100 to 85%SOH and then it is 6.25% per bar... so 15% for first and then 50% for remening 8. So SOH is in 35 to 28.75% range...

And then you are a 12 bar for 60 days. Next one is after 120 days and so on till you hit real SOH...

@mjk Really that would be very interresting, I would love to be able to charge to 92%. That is the point wenn charging slows down presumable to protect the battery. 80% is a bit low for me mostly because the charge drops really fast from 80 to 70 faster than for example 60 to 50, and the charging usually stops at 79. Add id up and I would like about 15 km more range for comport. I now use the time scedule in the summor to limit the full charge. In winter I usually go for 100%

The requirement for more than 62,5kW is liquid cooled cable. This is why you see Chademo having max 62,5kW since it is the limit on the CE specification and nobody is making liquid cooled Chademo yet.
